DANIEL BENAYUN
BENAYUN SHOP CO.
Through the use of opaque, water-based paints, his work evokes the visual language of mid-century print ads but subverts their intent. Rather than promoting consumerism, Benayun installs himself as the creator of an anti-capitalist zeitgeist, offering poetic and thought-provoking narratives. His pieces—often handmade, one-of-a-kind works—blend figurative imagery and text, including short stories and poetry, transforming advertisements into vessels for ideas rather than commodities.
Drawing influence from artists like Warhol, Matisse, and Toulouse-Lautrec, Benayun’s minimal yet vivid use of color conveys layered meaning with economy and precision. Whether reconstructing found inspiration or inventing new worlds, his work aims to resurrect the wonder of vintage commercial design while dismantling its historical baggage, inviting viewers into a parallel universe where art replaces the sale and imagination reigns.
Daniel Benayun is a Jamaica Plain-based artist who reimagines the hyperbolic idealism of mid-20th century advertising and design. Inspired by vintage ephemera, LIFE Magazine aesthetics, and commercial art's bold colors and sharp textures, Benayun constructs an alternate universe filled with imagined products, striking metaphors, and a dash of humor.
